Does what you eat promote colon cancer? Researchers warn against highly processed foods and seed oils

Watch out what’s in your plate today. It could shape your health tomorrow. The food you select can either promote colon cancer or help cure tumors in the long run. Recent research shows that highly processed foods and seed oils utilized in cooking are the leading reason for rising colon cancer rates in the US

Colon cancer, once considered a disease of older people, is now increasing alarmingly amongst young people. Studies suggest that unhealthy eating habits, particularly the increasing Western eating regimen wealthy in processed foods and unhealthy oils, are in charge.

Seed oils, commonly utilized in cooking processed foods, are low cost, plant-based oils which can be chemically processed from seeds equivalent to canola (rapeseed), corn, grapeseed, and sunflower. Although processed foods make life easier and tastier, they’re a known risk factor for various metabolic disorders, including obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

In a recent study, researchers examined how these foods affect the body’s natural healing processes. By examining 162 tumor samples from colon cancer patients, they found that the tumors contained an “excess number” of inflammation-causing molecules and a “deficit” of healing molecules.

“Patients who eat an unhealthy eating regimen are known to extend inflammation of their bodies. We now see this inflammation within the colon tumors themselves, and cancer is sort of a chronic wound that does not heal – when the body is fed ultra each day.” “With processed foods, its ability to heal this wound is reduced attributable to the inflammation and the suppression of the immune system, which ultimately allows the cancer to grow,” said Dr. Timothy Yeatman, co-author of the study in a Press release.

In line with the brand new study, the answer to inflammation also lies within the plate: selecting healthy fats like avocados as an alternative of seed oils will help with healing. The brand new findings open the door to a brand new, natural treatment approach called Resolution Medicine, which goals to revive dietary balance to more effectively combat colorectal cancer.

“Our bodies are designed to actively fight inflammation through bioactive lipid compounds derived from the healthy fats, like avocados, that we devour. Bioactive lipids are very small molecules that come from the foods we eat and, if the molecules come from processed foods.” “They directly unbalance the immune system and promote chronic inflammation,” explained Ganesh Halade, a researcher of the study.
